Accessible Communication

learndirect scotland and Deaf Connections are working in partnership to develop a series of learning packages to address the needs of learners with hearing impairments and provide opportunities for other learners to develop skills in communicating with hearning impaired individuals using sign.

What are the advantages?

• These learningbytes will provide underpinning knowledge of British Sign Language (BSL) within the scottish context and assist development of communication skills in working with and assisting hearing impaired individuals.
• Paper based tutor support materials will be made available to assist in signposting and assistance of hearing impaired learners and signing novice learners more effectively.  Marketing posters will also be made available to engage learners.
• Standalone online content will be created in the following areas:
• Introduction to British Sign Language (BSL)
• BSL for office staff
• BSL for retail staff
• BSL for hospital staff
• BSL for emergency services
• The content will help remove barriers faced by hearing impaired individuals by providing opportunities for learners with or without hearing impairments to develop their ability to communicate and better understand the issues faced by people with hearing impairments.
