learning bytes is a catalogue of online learning materials made available to learners through Skillnet, the learndirect scotland learning management system (LMS).
Individual learners or their learning centre tutors can select appropriate courses mapped to the skills or competencies required by a job, or from identified training needs, and register to use the course with an administration code provided to the learning centre.
The system will track the learners' progress, recording how much time they have spent on a course, and the scores and pass marks they achieve on any assessed materials.

The catalogue has over 600 topics and covers a wide range of interests and skills, from short overviews on dealing with debt or using the internet, to professional courses on business management, to work-related learning for industries such as construction, hospitality and care.
The courses are available at no cost to the network of branded learning centres. Learners accessing e-learning through branded learning centres self-register by attaching themselves to a centre and launch courses within minutes, meaning no administration for learning centre staff.
Reports tracking all learning are accessed by learning centre staff and certificates can be issued to learners.
