There are more than 500 learndirect scotland branded learning centres. Find those near you.

you are here: Home > Toolkits > Marketing > Organising an event > Type of event

What type of event?

Events might include an open day, taster session, certificate presentation to learners or a day trip for learners and their friends.

You could theme an open day around particular courses you want to promote, such as highlighting courses aimed at office workers or the construction industry.

You can also tap into national initiatives such as learndirect scotland campaigns, Adult Learners’ Week or Learning at Work Day, which offer marketing and promotional materials.

Community events and festivals are an opportunity for you to get involved, and your “event” could be as simple as hosting a stand. So rather than starting from scratch, you can benefit from a ready-made audience on the day with a lot less work.

Or, you could team up with other learning centres in your area and pool your resources to stage a larger event.

Make sure you don’t lose sight of your learning centre’s specific objectives if working with partners or as part of a wider community event.  Don’t let your efforts be overshadowed by the main event. Even if promotional materials are supplied for a national event, for example, you may still want to produce leaflets, cards or posters that promote your learning centre.
