learning bytes catalogue

learning bytes is a catalogue of online learning materials made available to learners through Skillnet, the learndirect scotland learning management system (LMS).  The system tracks learner progress, recording time spent on a course and the scores achieved on any assessed materials.

There are more than 500 topics, covering a wide range of interests and skills, including: 

• dealing with debt
• using the internet
• business management
• office software
• construction
• hospitality
• care.

Input from the branded learning centres and other partners has shaped the new catalogue.  We have also made access and learner support simpler by grouping the courses into meaningful categories and sub-headings. 

New Categories and Sub-Headings

Each course now includes a short descriptor, the estimated time to complete and a suggested user level (beginner, intermediate or advanced), to enable an easier and more accurate search.  Some of these courses have been grouped into clusters and qualify for ILA (Individual Learning Accounts) Scotland funding.

We are delighted to report that, in the first three years, almost 20,000 learners have accessed 80,000 learning bytes and we look forward to even more learners enjoying learning at a time, pace and place to suit them.
