Training Matters 5th Annual Awards Ceremony

Training Matters 5th Annual Awards Ceremony

Celebration of Success!

learndirect scotland branded learning centre Training Matters hosted their 5th Annual Awards Ceremony on Thursday 7th June 2007.  Training Matters deliver management vocational qualifications and host this award ceremony in their offices at the Innovation Centre, Hillington to recognise the achievement of their candidates from all across Scotland.

As in previous years, the Chairperson of the judges for the Manager of the Year was Yvonne Brown, Director of Learning with learndirect scotland.

There was a huge turnout of candidates to receive their awards together with representatives from their companies and many other partnering and supporting organisations. The night got off to a great start as everyone was welcomed with champagne, strawberries and a light buffet as they met up with old and new friends.

Manager of the Year 2007

The top award of Manager of the Year 2007 was won by Elizabeth Cooper who is the manager of Parkhall Nursery in Renfrewshire.  Elizabeth's ability to balance her full time management post running a busy nursery with bringing up her own family particularly impressed the judges.  Using Training Matters’ innovative online system allowed Elizabeth the flexibility to work on her qualification at times and locations best suited to her busy lifestyle.  When presenting the award Yvonne Brown said that it was very difficult to select a winner given the very high caliber of candidates. The runners up in this award were Tobias Mueller from Avance Group, Rutherglen and Alan Davidson who works for Spa One at the Sheraton Grand in Edinburgh.  Well done to them all!

The evening also brought together some interesting and motivational speakers.  The speakers included - Isobel Brown, Director of Skills & Learning from Scottish Enterprise, Jean Kerr, IBM, Carol Ramsay, Turnberry Hotel and  Don Waring, Training Manager with BCW.

Other awards were given to: Laura Kelman from ScottishPower for Personal Development; Sharon Auld from Ramada Jarvis Hotels won the Innovation award and Glasgow Science Centre won Best Company.

The formal part of the evening was followed by a light sweet buffet and more champagne!

A great night was had by all and the evening certainly lived up to the Training Matters motto of ‘Be the Best You Can Be!’
