Remote Assessment Project for Scotland

Latest News from Abilitynet, our partner in the RAPS Project

120 AT Videos at www.youtube.com/abilitynet

Our information resource at YouTube is continuing to grow and we have added a further group of videos to our playlists bringing the total to over 120. As a result we've had to create some new playlists including AAC devices, eyegaze systems and user experiences.

Low Cost No Cost Assistive Technology

This course is a great introduction to adaptive technology that looks at practical and cost effective solutions to make the computer safer and easier to use for all. Whether a user is disabled or able-bodied a standard keyboard, mouse and monitor is not always the most appropriate solution. Whilst some alternative technology can be sophisticated (and therefore relatively expensive) there are also many low cost practical adjustments available. None of the powerful ideas demonstrated on this course cost more than £150 and many are FREE.

28th November 2007 – AbilityNet, South Queensferry, Scotland

Fee is set at £150 + VAT per delegate and the event will be held from 10.00am to 4.00pm.  To book a place on this course or for more information on all up-coming events please contact the course administrator on courses@abilitynet.org.uk or phone 0800 269545 or download more information about the Low Cost No Cost Assistive Technology course (PDF 162KB).

Who is the Remote Assessment Project for Scotland for?

RAPS is a 3 year project funded by The Big Lottery Fund and learndirect scotland.  The project aims to make access to computers easier for individuals all across Scotland.  RAPS centres are equipped with resources to tackle difficulties that individuals may experience when accessing a computer.

On-line Assessment

The on-line assessment has been developed to identify what changes can be made to a computer to make it easier for people to use.  By taking a few moments to do the assessment you may learn about some simple changes that can be made to a computer to make it more accessible and easier to use.  You can find the assessment tool here.

Remote Assessment

If further assistance is required after completing the on-line assessment then a full remote assessment can be requested by the RAPS centre.  During a full remote assessment an AbilityNet assessor uses remote access software and a web camera to find out what adaptations can be made to the computer to make access for the individual.

Loan Pool

All RAPS centres have access to a loan pool which includes a wide range of alternative hardware and software which they can request for their students to try out.  This is particularly useful so that a RAPS centre can try equipment to ensure it is suitable for the individual.

There are 80 RAPS centres across Scotland, to find out where your nearest centre is please click here.
