HRH opens Lochaber College extension

HRH opening Princess Anne officially opened Lochaber College's new extension on Friday 11 May.

The extension will nearly double the space offered by the learndirect scotland branded learning centre.

New facilities include a library, construction industry block, new computer facilities, video conferencing links and a business 'HUB' area with free internet access.

Exciting things are happening at the college that reflect the areas status as the Outdoor Capital: a new Adventure Tourism Degree is planned to start in Autumn 2007; and a Path Building course and entry level Adventure Tourism Scottish Vocational Qualification are already being taught.

The Adventure Tourism SVQ works much like an apprenticeship , with students recieving a wage and gaining work experience in one of  Lochaber's many outdoor activity providers.

The course aims to prepare students for SVQ level 3 when they can expect to gain national governing body coaching qualifications in, for example, kayaking or climbing.  An SVQ level 3 Apprenticeship course in Adventure Tourism will start this September at the college.
