Annual conference 2008

Best practice award winners More than 250 delegates from across learndirect scotland’s national network of branded learning centres attended the 5th annual conference at the Hilton hotel, Glasgow this week (Monday 3 March).

Guest speakers including Minister for Schools and Skills Maureen Watt and Chief Executive of Scottish Engineering Dr Peter Hughes, OBE, addressed the conference.

Breakout sessions focussed on how the network of learning centres can improve upon their already impressive delivery. The sessions included staff development, learning partnerships, workplace literacies and “Why we need to change,” which encouraged delegates to see their team/organisation from a different perspective and how to develop the skills and attitudes necessary for change.

Three best practice awards were also presented.

Best Individual Development – JHP Training Edinburgh
Economic Pull – Minerva People
Cohesive Structures - Inverclyde Federation of Learning Centres

Minister for Schools and Skills Maureen Watt said: “Skills for Scotland aims to create a nation of skilled, confident and ambitious people who continue learning throughout their lives.

“With the help and support of learndirect scotland’s learning centres everyone has access to learning, training and development opportunities. Their work has been crucial in providing valuable information, advice and guidance that makes it easier for individuals to learn and develop their skills and experience. Their continued commitment to widening access to learning means Scotland can look forward to a bright future.”
